Police: No shot fired at Walter Reed military hospital near D.C.

TORONTO – Montgomery County police responded Monday to a report of a shot fired at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center just outside of the D.C., but later said there was no indication of a shooting.

Police received a call at 10:48 a.m. and “out of an abundance of caution” dispatched additional officers to the scene.

The medical facility had been placed under lockdown and all personnel were ordered to shelter in place.

Montgomery County police spokeswoman Natasha Plotnikov said a 911 caller reported hearing one shot inside Building 1, the Associated Press reported.

Photos on social media showed heavily armed officers entering the campus as employees and patients were escorted out of buildings.

During an afternoon press conference, police said there was no indication that there had been a shooting.

Police said all patient care was cancelled for the rest of the day.

Officers cleared the campus just before 2:00 p.m.

Last week, the Washington Navy Yard in D.C. was placed under lockdown for several hours following reports of an active shooter at the facility. Police said there was no evidence of a shooting or any weapons found.

In 2013, a lone gunman fatally shot 12 people and injured three others at the Naval headquarters.
