EDMONTON – Red Deer has reached a milestone; the central Alberta city’s population has surpassed 100,000.

The final count from Red Deer’s 2015 municipal census totalled 100,807 residents.

“This is a transformative, defining, game-changing moment for our city,” said Mayor Tara Veer. “Red Deer is Alberta’s third largest city, and truly is our province’s emerging city. The increase in our population gives us even more leverage on a provincial and national level to achieve the opportunities ahead of us.”

The population increased by 2,222 citizens, or 2.2 per cent, from 2014. The strongest areas of growth were Timberlands and Vanier.

“The growth in our community as a whole proves that Red Deer continues to be a desirable place for newcomers to put down roots and call home,” said Veer. “We have everything that a large city has to offer, but continue to keep the strong community life that we all desire. Red Deer is 100,807 strong.”
