‘It’s unsanitary’: Residents furious over Pointe-Claire’s garbage pickup schedule change

POINTE-CLAIRE — The winds of change have come to Pointe-Claire — but just make sure not to stand downwind.

Dozens of residents showed up at Tuesday night’s city council meeting to voice concerns over garbage pickup being reduced to once every two weeks.

The city made the move to encourage residents to compost and recycle more.

While the change started in May, not everyone is on board.

“This is a problem around the health and safety of your families and children,” Pointe-Claire resident Gianni Rino told Global News.

“Yesterday I had maggots, rats and raccoons who overturned my garbage to get inside.”

Rino said he wants Mayor Morris Trudeau and the city council to add another five to seven pickups during the summer months.

A petition has been started asking the city to reverse its decision and return its garbage collection back to once a week.
