MONTREAL — The Quebec provincial police are investigating a shooting death after a man killed by Montreal police on Sunday night.

The incident took place at approximately 9:45 p.m., as Montreal police were responding to an emergency call where an alleged conflict between a man and a woman was taking place inside an apartment on Papineau Ave. near Ontario St.

A police spokesperson told media that there was a confrontation when officers entered the home, and shots were fired.

The man in his 40s was transferred to hospital, where he died early Monday morning.

As the death involved a Montreal police officer, the investigation into the shooting has been transferred to the Sûreté du Québec.
