TORONTO — Reality TV star Khloé Kardashian said this week she is thrilled her former stepfather Bruce Jenner has begun the process of becoming a woman.

“This is Bruce’s story and it’s just so courageous of him to do that, especially at an older age. My heart would have been broken if he never was able,” she said.

“He always said what if, God forbid, he was diagnosed with something and only had X amount of days to live? He would have always felt like ‘damn it, I should have did that’ and he would have always had regrets. I would have felt horrible.”

In an interview with The Kris Fade Show on Virgin Radio Dubai, Kardashian said Jenner’s decision to transition was “incredibly brave.”

Jenner, 65, discussed his journey in a highly-rated interview with Diane Sawyer that aired in April.

The former Olympian told Sawyer: “My brain is much more female than it is male. It’s hard for people to understand that but that’s what my soul is.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Following the broadcast, Kardashian tweeted: “Bruzer, I’m soooo proud of you!”

In Dubai this week, she said Jenner is talking publicly about this transition “to hopefully save or encourage other people and make them feel like it’s OK and not to feel trapped or almost imprisoned in your own body.”

Kardashian insisted it was Jenner’s choice to share his experience on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

“It’s hard to go through that so publicly and have so many people dissect it but this is our real life. This is something that’s happening to us and we’re letting it unfold on camera, which is hard because then people are judging you if you’re not reacting the appropriate way,” she said.

Kardashian said she fully supports her ex-stepdad.

“Someone feels imprisoned in their own body for their whole life,” she said. “That’s no way to live.

“The weight that’s lifted off of his shoulders, the smile that’s on his face — it makes you so happy that he did do that.”

In the same interview with Virgin Radio Dubai, Kardashian seemed to contradict a Business Insider report last month that she was planning to launch a messaging app called RegroupD.

“I don’t know if I’m doing that yet. Nothing’s confirmed,” she said. “I’m being very particular as to what app that I want to be associated with because it has to make sense and there’s so many things out there and it’s trial and error.

“I don’t have details as to which one I want to be a part of.”
