VERNON — Children at Okanagan Landing Elementary School discovered a dead body in their school yard Monday morning. RCMP say the death was a suicide.
“We believe it to be a person who was reported missing [Sunday] evening who made indications of his intentions,” says Gordon Molendyk, Spokesperson for the Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP.
Much of the school yard is behind police tape and children are being kept inside the school to prevent them from seeing the scene.

“At no time were the children in danger,” says Molendyk. “The lock down was to protect the children from seeing the body.”
The coroner is on scene.
