Sweatin’ to the White House: Michelle Obama stars in new workout video meant to get people moving

TORONTO – Watch out Richard Simmons – the First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS) has taken on many roles over the nation’s history and now we can add workout guru to the list.

Michelle Obama stars in a new exercise video, released on YouTube Tuesday night, that is meant to get Americans moving and exercising instead of packing on the pounds.

Over the course of the day she answered healthy lifestyle questions via social media as part of the #gimmefive trend she’s promoting, including what music she listens to during a workout.

But the highlight of the initiative is the video that shows Obama in her workout attire, seemingly ready to take on Rocky Balboa, gloves and all.

Along with Cornell McLellan, a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, Obama showcases five simple workouts that she enjoys to stay fit. They include jump rope, a medicine ball for an abdominal challenge, squats using a bench, lifting 35-pound weights and even some boxing.

A jab-cross followed by a roundhouse kick is surely enough to keep the rest of the White House in line and on good behaviour.
