OTTAWA – Federal Liberals have voted to throw open the doors of their party to all Canadians willing to offer their support.
They’ve agreed to create a new “supporter” category, in addition to fee-paying, card-carrying members.
The delegates have also voted to allow supporters to vote for future party leaders.
But they have yet to decide what other privileges will be granted to supporters.
Interim leader Bob Rae threw his weight behind creation of the supporter category.
He urged about 2,000 delegates to a Liberal renewal convention to transform the party from an exclusive club into an inclusive movement.
