Driver that hit and killed cyclist near Okotoks could face charges

WATCH ABOVE: A family is preparing for the funeral of a husband and father who was killed in cycling collision near Okotoks, as Carolyn Kury de Castillo reports, the driver could face charges.

CALGARY – RCMP could lay charges after a cyclist was hit and killed near Okotoks last week.

It happened around 4 p.m. on Monday, May 4th, 2015.

RCMP say 42-year-old Deric Kryvenchuk was travelling eastbound on Highway 7 when he was struck from behind by an eastbound vehicle.

Kryevnchuk was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 41-year-old woman from High River, was uninjured. Global News has learned police are considering charging her with two offences, including driving while suspended and careless driving.

Whether or not charges are laid depends on consultation with the Crown.

Kryvenchuk’s funeral is being held in Okotoks on Tuesday. He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.
