Laval police investigating fire that injured 2 children

MONTREAL — Police in Laval are investigating after an apartment fire in the Pont-Viau neighbourhood left two children injured, one seriously.

A severely burned toddler was found in the apartment and has been transferred to Sainte Justine Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Another unconscious child was discovered by firefighters in his bedroom and was treated for smoke inhalation.

Three adults and a toddler managed to escape from the apartment and were also treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were called to the building on Nomont Street at around 2:30 a.m.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
