Police say Thompson was followed by officers into an alley  where there was a confrontation. according to ASIRT, the man then pulled out a pipe and threatened an officer.

“It’s shocking for us here because this is like family here everybody gets along with everybody and the demeanor of how they placed Morgan doesn’t fit his demeanor of when he is here. I was skeptical because that’s just not Morgan.” Bill Basque, another family friend said.

People who have known the Thompson family for 15 years are defending the man.

“I was devastated because he is not a racist, because his girlfriend is brown. So I don’t understand it. We have coloured people here and he has never been rude to anybody and he is such a nice guy, he’s an artistic person,” Olszewski said.

“He is not a racist at all. I have a young son that might have said the same thing, might just have been at the heat of the moment – he went “white power” but he was not racist,” Olszewski said.

ASIRT continues to investigate the shooting.

Witnesses say Thompson started walking away from the rally quickly down Stephen Avenue as police approached him.

Then, an officer in a police car, joined by three recruits, spotted the man on Centre Street.
