Winnipeg school gets massive fundraising boost

WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg school got a massive boost Friday night in the fundraising efforts to build a brand new field.

Dakota Collegiate hasn’t been able to play on a home field in years. They’ve had to travel to different venues to host visiting teams.

The school and its alumni have been fundraising to upgrade the field into the ambitious, state-of-the-art Alumni Field but need $5 million to complete it. During Dakota Collegiate’s second annual gala dinner in support of Alumni Field, the city of Winnipeg announced a $600 000 grant for the project.

The formal event boasted Olympian Jon Montogmery and sports anchor Jay Onrait as guest speakers and emceed by Global’s Eva Kovacs. Kovacs featured the school in a Better Winnipeg story from March 26.
