TORONTO – Funeral arrangements have been made for one of the last remaining Target stores in Canada.

Okay, it’s not a funeral per se, but a Toronto resident organized a Facebook event for Saturday, dubbed “Target Funeral: The Last Purchase.”

“Just like Doug Ford (former Toronto city councillor) and Roll Up The Rim, Target is something that has been taken away from Canadians way too soon. As we mourn, Target deserves a proper and sombre send-off on the last day of sales,” reads the Facebook event description.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Consumers are “cordially” invited to attend a 15-minute service outside of the Toronto store (Target Stockyards) at 5 p.m.

According to the event description, black funeral attire is “mandatory” and a bagpipe player will be in attendance.

“After the eulogy we will all go in [the store] to collectively make ‘The Last Purchase,’ reads a post on the event page.

Close to 350 people have been invited to the funeral, however, only 35 have confirmed they are attending.

Target announced in January it was pulling out of the Canadian market.

Target Canada has been winding down its operations since Jan. 15. The few remaining stores are scheduled to close April 12.
