A Florida man captured a photo Monday that seems to be one in a million.
John Bailey was at Sebastian Inlet State Park in Florida when he noticed a bobcat by the shore. Bailey told WPTV he saw the cat eyeing what he thought was a fish in the water. Suddenly, it lunged to grab its prey and dragged a metre-long shark onto the shore.
He added that he thinks he may have scared the cat, which dropped its catch and ran into the forest. But before he did, Bailey was able to snap a photo that is making headlines around the world.
National Geographic has studied the photo and their experts have no reason to believe it was a doctored picture.
Biologists from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission say they think the shark is an adult Atlantic Sharpnose Shark.
The photo isn’t the only rare occurrence.
Not only is the saltwater fishing unique, but just seeing a bobcat out and about is rather rare.
“Bobcats are generally really very, very reclusive,” wildlife sanctuary director Amy Knight told WPTV. “You don’t see them out and about too often.”
