UPDATE:
KELOWNA — RCMP say a sleepy driver lost control of his pick-up truck, causing the vehicle to crash into a light standard Friday morning.
Police say it happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Pandosy Street.
It appears the driver gradually veered off the road and slammed into the pole head-on. A witness says the man driving the truck seemed shaken but uninjured.
Kelowna RCMP issued the driver a ticket.
“When someone is that tired and you can’t stay awake, it’s a danger,” says Constable Lise Marion. “There could’ve been cyclists out and pedestrians; it’s getting to be a nice time of year. So I issued him a ticket for driving without due care.”
Police say the man was taken home to rest.
