B.C. doctor complains of lack of supplies following death of Vernon senior

VERNON, B.C. – An 88-year-old Vernon, B.C., man is dead and an investigation is underway after his doctor complained of insufficient surgical supplies.

The Interior Health Authority says Malcolm Land died a few days after undergoing hip replacement surgery at an Okanagan hospital.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

Land’s surgeon has sent a letter to Interior Health complaining three tubes of special cement should have been available on the day of the surgery.

Instead, the doctor says just one tube was provided and by the time the shortage was spotted, it was too late to stop the procedure.

The health authority says privacy laws prevent any comment, other than to confirm it is investigating.

A report into the allegations is expected by late January. (CHBC)
