P.E.I. man killed during blizzard trying to tow car from snowbank

NORTH TRYON, P.E.I. – A 67-year-old Charlottetown man died today after being struck by a vehicle after he left his car and was trying to have it towed out of a snowbank.

The Mounties say the collision occurred at about 9:45 a.m. during a blizzard near North Tryon, Prince Edward Island.

Staff Sergeant Ken Spencely says a passing driver was pulling a stranded S-U-V out of a ditch when the car being towed was struck by a pickup truck.

A third vehicle then collided into the rear of the truck.

Spencely says it’s not clear which vehicle hit the man.

The female driver of the S-U-V was taken by paramedics to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Police have not released the victim’s name.
