CALGARY – It’s been an agonizing week for friends and family of a Calgary man critically hurt in a bad crash last Sunday.

They’ve been keeping vigil at his bedside hoping he’ll pull through.

It’s been a week since 61-year-old Wade Anderson was critically injured after his pick-up was hit by a van.

The speeding driver ran a red light, alcohol is also suspected.  Wade suffered severe injuries, broken bones and has been in a medically induced coma ever since.

Police say both alcohol and speed are considered factors in the crash.

Anderson’s family says he’s expected to stay in hospital for quite some time and will have a lengthy recovery.

His friends are rallying to help him and his family as they brace for a difficult road ahead.

“When I did find out how bad it was, it was really disturbing me, hard thing to handle,” Buddy Butt, Wade’s friend said.

The aftermath of a horrible crash that left a father, a husband and a friend barely alive was overwhelming to see.

“He will survive and I believe god has him and is going to bring him back to us and I firmly have to believe that he’s got a lot of people to help, he’s a caring man,” Butt said.

His friends are surrounding him with support, knowing that he has a long road of recovery ahead of him and they want to do whatever they can.

“He’s never relied on anybody to get him anywhere, he’s a very proud man,” Butt said.

They have arranged a trust fund and an online fundraising campaign to financially help the self-employed labourer who won’t be able to return to work for months, if ever again.

You can donate online at the ‘Wade Anderson Tragedy Fund’.

“Wade represents strength in my life he has done a lot to become somebody willing to help. We need wade. He would do it for us,” Trish Little said.

As they wait helplessly at his bedside, waiting for any shred of hopeful news, this is the one thing they feel they can do for a man whose done so much for them.

“He’s been an inspiration ever since I got here to Calgary to try and do something with my life. He was the brother, the father I never had. He helped me through a lot of things, he’s always there to help people and giving giving giving,” Bradley Garand said.

And those who have leaned on him so many times say now, it’s his turn.

“If I ever needed or wanted anything, Wade would do it for me,” Butt said.
