Blast of winter on the first day of spring in Edmonton

WATCH ABOVE: It may be the first day of spring, but Edmonton woke up to some serious winter weather today. Kendra Slugoski reports.

EDMONTON — What a difference a day can make. After over a week of warm temperatures, sometimes in the double digits, Edmonton and the surrounding area woke up on Friday to several inches of snow on the ground.

Morning News weather specialist Mike Sobel woke up to six centimetres on his driveway, and said the city received about 5 to 10 centimetres of the white stuff on Friday morning.

Almost exactly two years ago today, 100 people were injured in a massive, kilometres-long pileup involving over 100 vehicles on the QEII near Wetaskiwin.
