REGINA – Saskatchewan’s finance minister is trading in his usual black dress shoes for a new style ahead of Wednesday’s provincial budget.
As part of the budget-week tradition of finance ministers showing off their shoe choice, Ken Krawetz unveiled a brown pair Tuesday, saying they were a gift from his wife.
“They’re not only a bit tight like the budget will be but they’re a break from tradition,” Krawetz said. “That might be what the budget will also do.”
Revenues are expected to fall $700-million short of projections, Krawetz said.
“It’s been trying, there’s no question,” he added. “We were still looking at a very positive price of a barrel of oil on the horizon. We knew we’d have to tighten things up, but as each month went by we were faced with much more difficult challenges.”
His comments echo Premier Brad Wall’s, which have suggested this budget is the most challenging his government has had to put together.
It’s expected to be Krawetz’s last budget as finance minister, as he is not seeking re-election.
