SASKATOON – Winter is nearly over and temperatures are cooperating in Saskatchewan. People witnessed the mercury breaking record highs across the province Saturday, according to Environment Canada.
The federal agency says a southwesterly flow of warm, dry air flooded across the Prairies on March 14. It combined with a thinning or non-existent snowpack, setting new record highs for the day in seven locations.
Saskatoon’s new record for the day is 9.1 degrees Celsius, beating out a high of 8.3 in 1927. Last year, the high was zero.
Estevan, Kindersley, Leader, Maple Creek and Swift Current also set record highs in southern Saskatchewan. In the north, Collins Bay beat its old high of 6.3 with 9.9 on Saturday.
