OTTAWA – The unemployment rate in Saskatchewan edged up in February as more people entered the work force and the provincial economy shed 700 jobs. Statistics Canada reported Friday the unemployment rate was 5.0 per cent, an increase of 0.5 percentage points from January.
On a year-over-year basis, the unemployment rate in the province was up 0.9 percentage points.
Overall, there were 595,700 in the work force, an increase of 2,600 from the previous month.
The number of people employed was 565,900, down 700 from January, with the losses coming from part-time work. Full time employment was up by 1,800 jobs.
