Groat Road closed this weekend for bridge work

Groat Road will be closed between 107 Avenue and River Valley Road March 13-15. Global News

EDMONTON — Groat Road will be closed from 107 Avenue to River Valley Road starting 7:30 p.m. Friday so work can be done on the 102 Avenue Bridge.

The road will remain closed for the rest of the weekend. It’s expected to be open by Monday morning, but the city says the closure could be extended.

“For safety, we need to close Groat Road while our contractor lifts the steel girders into place,” explained Allan Bartman, the Roads Design and Construction supervisor.

“Crews expect to complete the work over the weekend and get traffic flowing on Groat Road for the Monday morning commute.”

Because of the bridge replacement project, 102 Avenue has been closed since July 2014.

The Groat Road shared-use path will remain closed until the end of April. Several night closures of Groat Road will take place next week to accommodate other bridge work. The schedule will be announced on March 15.

The new 102 Avenue Bridge is expected to open to traffic in fall 2015.
