VERNON – Vernon residents with respiratory ailments are advised to limit the amount of time they spend outdoors.
The Environment Ministry has issued a dust advisory for the city because of high concentrations of coarse particulates in the airshed.
It’s mostly caused by vehicles stirring up sand laid down over the winter to improve tire traction.
The ministry reports the average particulate load over the past day in Vernon is 65 micrograms per cubic metre which is 15 micrograms over the provincial air quality objective.
The dusty conditions are expected to persist until the dry, stagnant weather conditions change.
