Smokers are getting their butts in gear with the Lung Association of Nova Scotia’s program that helps to teach smokers how to run. Starting next week at the Homburg Health & Wellness Centre on the Saint Mary’s campus, this eight-week program introduces smokers to the love of running, with activity levels customized to each participant. Great news for young people in Yarmouth and Lunenburg county – Laing House is expanding.   At 7:45 am we chat with Ron Patterson, Laing House Community Development Coordinator, about the peer support programs that will be offered to young adults living with mental illness in rural communities.

There’s no denying it’s been a brutal winter in Halifax with snow on top of ice on top of snow and so on. According to our Morning News physician Dr. Howard Conter, the last six weeks he’s been busy seeing an increase in patients with broken bones from slip and fall accidents as a result of slippery sidewalks and driveways. At 8:15am Dr. Conter stops by the red table to talk about this issue and what you should do if you fall.

After lots of hype and fanfare the puck is finally about to drop on the 2015 CIS University Cup in Halifax. Eight teams from across the country are vying for the trophy to crown Canada’s best university hockey team and at 8:20am we’ll meet members of St. FX University. The X-Men are in tough versus U of A on Friday but could have the home crowd behind them as they are hosts for this event!

At 8:45am we’ll get a special performance from The Saunders Brothers. The traditional east coast kitchen party band will perform their hit song, “Weather Girl” which may or may not be a tribute to our very own Global Weather Specialist Alex Haider. Find out for sure Wednesday at 8:45am.
