Saskatoon housing starts rebound in February: CMHC

OTTAWA – Housing starts in the Saskatoon census metropolitan area (CMA) experienced a rebound in February, according to preliminary numbers from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The report released Monday shows promise after a slow start to 2015.

Construction on 247 units began in February 2015 compared to 152 units in February 2014. Broken down, 185 multi-family units and 62 single-detached homes were started last month.

So far this year, there have been 402 total starts in the Saskatoon CMA compared to 528 the same time in 2014. Over 3,500 units were started last year.

Saskatchewan’s total urban starts were at 628 by the end of February, down from 885 in 2014.

CMHC’s preliminary housing starts for Canada last month were at 9,159, down from 11,037 in February 2014.
