No injuries after CN Rail train derails in northern Ontario

File / Global News

HORNEPAYNE, Ont. – A CN freight train has derailed in a remote area of northern Ontario but the company confirms there were no injuries and no fire.

A company spokesman says senior officials have arrived at the scene about 100 kilometres east of Hornepayne, where 16 cars the derailed at 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

Jim Feeny says in an email that the derailed cars are residue tank cars that contained crude oil or gasoline, but adds there’s no sign of any leaks or spillage of product.

Feeny says more CN crews are arriving at the remote site and will begin work to ensure there are no environmental issues.

Once that’s done, he says, the track will be safely returned to service.

This is the second time in recent weeks that a CN freight train has derailed in northern Ontario.
