Man found dead inside Grande Prairie home following fire

EDMONTON — A 41-year-old man was found dead inside a Grande Prairie home following a fire late Tuesday night.

Emergency crews were called to a fire in the area of 94 Avenue and 102 Street around 11:30 p.m. The house was engulfed by flames.

Witnesses on scene told fire crews there may be a person inside the house, but RCMP say it wasn’t safe for firefighters to enter the building. The fire was brought under control around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Police do not believe the house was being lived in at the time. The victim has been identified as a 41-year-old man from Grande Prairie, although his name is not being released at this time.

An autopsy will be performed on the man to determine how he died.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
