TORONTO – It only took 48 hours for the Pebble Time to reach over $10 million in funding on Kickstarter, eclipsing the record set by the original Pebble smartwatch back in 2012.

The new Kickstarter campaign for the device launched at 10 a.m. ET Tuesday and just 17 minutes later, the project had surpassed its $500,000 funding goal.

In less than 35 minutes, the campaign had raised over $1 million – officially making it the fastest project to raise $1 million on Kickstarter.

It took the original Pebble smartwatch five weeks to raise $10.7 million in 2012.

Other new features include a built-in microphone for voice activated commands and a new operating system that holds more apps than the previous version. The device’s battery will also last up to seven days on a full charge. The smartwatch comes in three colours – a black band with black stainless steel bezel, a white band with silver stainless steel bezel, or a red band with black stainless steel bezel.

But Pebble Time isn’t the most funded project in history – yet.

In August, a project called the “Coolest Cooler,” a high-tech cooler with a massive amount of features, raised over $11 million in funding in eight weeks, stealing the title of most-funded Kickstarter project right out from under Pebble. Coolest Cooler raked in a cool $13 million total.

The Pebble Time Kickstarter doesn’t close until March 27 – which means the company still has a month of money making ahead of it.

Pebble Time will retail for $199, but won’t be available until the company ships all of the orders from Kickstarter.
