Zachary Boucher loves dogs and has always wanted to help others. On Tuesday, his dream came true in the form of the perfect job: a K9 officer.
The Cape Coral Police Department in Florida swore in the eight-year-old at a ceremony marking the beginning of the boy’s career in law enforcement.
Zachary suffers from an incurable autoimmune disorder called Hypogammaglobulinemia that makes him vulnerable to other diseases. He has already had several surgeries and needs a monthly infusion.

His mom Marie set up a Facebook page to help bring awareness to the rare disease and to Zachary’s mission to help others.
The police department wanted to give Zachary the chance to live out his dream.
“I’m really looking forward to the things that we can do together in the time that we have,” Sgt. David McConnell told WBBH.

McConnell added that he wanted to make sure that Zachary’s family could always count on him and the rest of the K9 unit if he ever needed help.
Zachary spent the day training with a German Shepherd named Nate, learning how to search cars and ordering the dog to attack at his command.
“I feel cool,” said Zachary. “The only thing I like about it is everything!”
