Eric McCormack honourary chair of L.A. event celebrating Canadian talent

TORONTO — The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will be honoured next week in Los Angeles with the first ever Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (ACCT) Legacy Award.

Piers Handling, director and CEO of TIFF, will accept the award Feb. 19 at the Canada Stars in Awards Season event at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills Hotel. The award recognizes “unyielding dedication in bringing international acclaim to Canadian talent in film, television or digital media.”

Toronto-born actor Eric McCormack is serving as honourary chair of the event staged by the ACCT, Telefilm Canada and the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles.

Among the invitees are Canadian stars A.J. Cook, Anna Silk, Dustin Milligan, Don McKellar, Enrico Colantoni, Justin Chatwin, Karine Vanasse, Kevin Zegers, Rachelle Lefevre and Jessalyn Gilsig.

Filmmakers Norman Jewison, Dean DeBlois and Torill Kove are also expected to attend.
