Telus proposes giant media screen for downtown Vancouver high-rise

WATCH (above): A giant screen that would display media content on a vancouver high-rise is causing quite a buzz. Catherine Urquhart reports.

A newly proposed giant media screen that would display content on a Vancouver high-rise is causing some buzz but residents in the area are not so keen on the idea.

Telus, which is the company behind the project, is selling it as a creative way to breathe culture into the Vancouver skyline.

The 8 metre by 11 metre screen would hang from the 16th to 18th floors of a building located at 520 West Georgia. And although the City of Vancouver unanimously passed a motion for an outdoor lighting strategy — to reduce “light pollution” — Telus and developer Westbank claim the light would not be intrusive.

Although city officials were at the open house showcasing the media screen, no one from the city was permitted to talk to press about the proposal.

The issue will go to public hearings this spring and will need approval of Vancouver city council.
