WINNIPEG – If you park on a residential street, make sure you “know your zone” and have a plan for moving your vehicle.

The city announced Wednesday it will begin plowing residential streets Friday morning, which triggered a residential parking ban to begin at the same time. The residential ban is in effect in 12 hour blocks in various “snow zones.” You can find out what zone your neighbourhood is in by calling 311 or using this online tool.

Residents of snow zones A, F, I, M, P, Q, T and U will be the first to have to move their vehicles starting 7 a.m. Friday.

A declared snow route parking ban which began Tuesday also remains in effect, banning parking on snow routes between midnight and 7 a.m. until further notice.

“Vehicles parked in violation of the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will receive a $100 ticket ($50 if paid early), and may be towed to the towing company’s compound,” the city says in a news release. “Vehicles parked in violation of the Residential Parking Ban will receive a $150 ticket ($75 if paid early), and may be towed to a nearby street that is not scheduled to be plowed, or has already been cleared.”
