RCMP renew call for tips in 25-year-old Prince Rupert arson cold case

WATCH:  An appeal today from the surviving family for new information into a terrible crime in Prince Rupert that killed four members of the same family. Rumina Daya reports.

VANCOUVER – RCMP are renewing their call for tips in relation to a 25-year-old cold case–one police describe as a “senseless criminal act.”

In the early morning hours of Feb. 5, 1990, firefighters in Prince Rupert responded to a call at a mixed commercial/residential building. By the time they arrived, it was engulfed in flames.

Once investigators entered the building, they found four bodies on the fifth floor. The victims were all related–three generations of the same family.

Helga Rochon, her daughters Sherri and Pauline Rochon, and Pauline’s seven-month-old daughter, Kimberly, all died in the blaze.
