REGINA – A house near Mosaic Stadium suffered extensive damage in a blaze Monday afternoon.
Neighbour Dustin Eashappie was taking out his garbage when he saw the smoke. He ran over and dialed 911, “There were a lot of flames coming from the window, from upstairs.”
Fire crews got the call around 2:15 p.m. When they got to the home on Cameron Street near 8th Avenue, the house was fully engulfed in flames.
After conducting a primary and secondary search, Fire Marshall Randy Ryba said they don’t think anyone was inside.
Investigators were on scene, but the intense heat forced them to wait until the fire was better suppressed before piecing together a cause.
The blaze caused the main floor to collapse, making it dangerous for firefighters to enter the home, while winter weather plagued them outside.
“The weather is always a challenge, the cold, the slip and falls, all the potential things you can do when you use water to extinguish a fire,” Ryba said.
The flames also leapt to a neighbouring home, burning a hole through the exterior wall and causing serious damage inside.
A dollar value on damage has not yet been determined.
