Montreal mayor invites mayors from around the world to discuss terrorism issues

PARIS – Montreal’s mayor is inviting his peers from around the world to discuss terrorism-related issues this summer. Denis Coderre made the announcement today in Paris, where he’s currently travelling.

Coderre says the goal of next summer’s meeting in Montreal is to discuss how cities across the world can balance openness and security in light of the threat of international terrorism.

Montreal is scheduled to host the International Economic Forum of the Americas in June and Coderre said he’ll take advantage of that event to unite his fellow mayors from around the world.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo says she accepted Coderre’s offer today to visit Montreal next summer.

Coderre continues his trip to France tomorrow.
