Team Manitoba names bearers for 2015 Canada Winter Games

WINNIPEG — Manitoba’s top young athletes will strut into the 2015 Canada Winter Games opening ceremonies behind flag bearer Keenan Brown and lantern bearer Christian Higham.  The pair selected to lead Team Manitoba into the CN Centre in Prince George, B.C. on February 13.

Brown who will compete in the sport of Archery has represented Canada at the World Youth Championships since 2008 even winning the gold medal at the 2011 Worlds in the Junior Men’s Team Compound event and Brown feels he can reach the top of the podium in Prince George.

“I’m aware that I’m the favourite to win the Canada Games this year.” said Brown.  “This is my second time around. I got bronze last one losing only to the eventual winner and at the time the world champion.  This Canada games I feel like my training should pay off and I will win.”

Higham will lead the province’s women’s hockey team and is one of four member of the team who won silver for Canada at the 2015 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship.

“I’m just going to try and bring everything that I’ve learned with Hockey Canada to the Canada Games.” said Higham.  “So that I can contribute in every way and every end of the ice. Just with my new skills and some of the concepts that they taught me as well.”

Manitoba Scotties champion Kaitlyn Lawes was announced as this year’s Honourary Captain.  She attended the 2003 Canada Winter games.
