UPDATE: All advisories mentioned in this story have ended

SASKATOON – Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning in southeastern Saskatchewan. The low pressure system moving through the province has pushed further south than initially expected.

The agency said the system was impacting an area from the Battlefords to east of Saskatoon. Freezing rain is expected to continue southeast along Highway 11 towards Regina and Estevan.

Saskatoon police said driving conditions on city streets were deteriorating. They were advising drivers to slow down and allow more distance between vehicles.

A couple of hours of freezing rain is expected Saturday morning before tapering off.

The system is drawing in warm air overtop of a layer of freezing air near and at the surface creating favourable conditions for the formation of freezing rain.

In addition, winds will be very strong Saturday with sustained speeds of up to 40 to 50 km/h and gusts into the 70 to 80 km/h range.
