NEW YORK – Controversial comedy The Interview will be available to stream on Netflix in Canada and the U.S. starting on Saturday.

The streaming company announced the new acquisition on the same day that Sony Pictures said the film had hit US$40 million in digital sales, putting the comedy on track to eclipse Bridesmaids as the biggest online release ever.

In a statement, Sony Pictures chief executive Michael Lynton called the total “a significant milestone.”
