Woodstock First Nations man arrested after hours long standoff with police

WOODSTOCK, N.B. – A 35-year-old Woodstock First Nation man has been arrested after an almost 12-hour standoff between Woodstock RCMP and the man, who allegedly had a loaded rifle.

The incident occurred Sunday evening on Eagles Nest Drive on the Woodstock First Nation where the suspect had barricaded himself in a residence. RCMP received the complaint shortly after 3 p.m. that an intoxicated man had a loaded gun and was uttering death threats.

Police evacuated residents in the area and have confirmed there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and police.

The suspect surrendered shortly after 2 a.m. Monday morning. He was immediately taken into custody and transported to the hospital to be assessed by medical staff who treated him for non life-threatening injuries and he was released from hospital that morning. No one else was injured.

The area where the incident occurred has been cordoned off by police for RCMP’s Forensic Identification experts to collect any evidence which could be related to the incident.
