VANCOUVER – An over-height truck hit two overpasses on Highway 99 on Friday.

At about 10:57 a.m. Deas Island Traffic Services received a report that a truck had hit the 112 Street overpass on Highway 99, southbound, and its load was stuck. When RCMP arrived they found out the driver had also hit the Ladner Trunk overpass first but was able to continue on before getting stuck.

The driver was uninjured in the incidents.

The truck was able to reverse and partially pull off to the side of the road, however, the load will require a crane to remove it from the slow lane and transfer the load to another truck.

Highway 99 southbound slow lane was closed before 112 Street until 10 p.m. After the rush hour a crane was brought in to transfer the load.

“We understand this incident will greatly affect the afternoon commute and we ask drivers to be patient and cautious while we take the necessary steps to ensure the safe removal of the trucks load and the structural integrity of the affected overpass” said Cpl. Ronda Rempel with BC RCMP Traffic Services.

The driver has been issued a seven-month driving prohibition and the truck has been deemed out of service.
