Extreme cold weather alert in effect for Toronto

TORONTO – An Extreme Cold Weather Alert is in effect for the City of Toronto as Environment Canada predicts an overnight low of -15 degrees Celsius Friday.

The advisory opens up additional warming centres and services for those who are most vulnerable and the homeless.

The city’s Medical Officer of Health issues the alerts when Environment Canada forecasts that overnight temperatures will reach -15 degrees Celsius or colder.

A special weather statement is also in effect for parts of Southern Ontario, including Toronto, due to blowing snow and poor winter driving conditions.

Environment Canada says drifting snow will result in some untreated roads becoming snow covered in various regions.
