Escaped murderer from Sask. Penitentiary captured by Saskatoon police

SASKATOON – An escaped murderer is back behind bars. Saskatoon police arrested Kevin Michael Sheets on Thursday afternoon after he escaped from a minimum security unit at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert, Sask. on Wednesday.

Officers were called to The Lighthouse in the 200-block of 20th Street East after a man matching Sheets’ description entered the building. He was arrested without incident.

Sheets, 47, is serving a indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder and breach of recognizance to keep the peace. Correctional Service of Canada staff reported his disappearance to Mounties after he was “not accounted for” during a count.

Sheets will be held in Saskatoon police custody until arrangements can be made to return him to the penitentiary.
