Pedestrian hit in Vancouver dies of injuries

A pedestrian hit by a mini-van on Oak Street on Dec. 30 has died due to his injuries, according to police.

The collision occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Oak Street near West 15th Avenue. The 59-year-old man was taken to the hospital with head injuries, which were initially considered to be serious but not life-threatening. He stayed in hospital but never recovered from the injuries and was pronounced dead this afternoon.

The 52-year-old driver stayed at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with police.

The accident caused Oak Street to be shut down in both directions while investigators gathered evidence.

According to Vancouver police, alcohol and speed are not a factor.
