Serial rapist moving to the Okanagan

A serial rapist who preyed on women in Calgary is being released from jail and plans to move to the Okanagan.

On Thursday, Andrew Aurie Jefferson will be a free man and Kelowna RCMP plan to keep a close eye on him to ensure he obeys court-ordered conditions.

Jefferson was known as the Falconridge rapist, attacking and viciously sexually assaulting complete strangers in a crime spree that lasted several months.

A massive police manhunt eventually brought Jefferson behind bars.

He was ultimately sentenced to six-and-a-half years in jail but had two-and-a-half-years knocked off that sentence as credit for time served.

Now he is at warrant expiry, which means he has served every day of his sentence and officials have no choice but to release him.

The parole board predicts he will re-offend saying, “In all likelihood, Jefferson will be smarted when released and will be more difficult to catch.”

Board members have told Jefferson: “You have not lowered your risk and therefore remain a risk to commit an offence causing serious harm”.

Global News has learned Jefferson has agreed to be monitored by the Kelowna RCMP for two years following a list of court-imposed conditions.

If Jefferson decides to move back to Calgary or any other centre, he is required to have that approved by the RCMP.

Kelowna RCMP are expected to put out a public warning about Jefferson on Thursday.
