Winter snowstorm won’t stop Calgarians from celebrating New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas

CALGARY – Calgarians usually fly south of the border to escape the cold weather, but this week snowbirds might want to consider staying home.

Normally hot and sunny destinations, San Diego and Las Vegas are both expecting winter snowstorms.

“I’m not going to tell anyone I’m a Canadian when I’m down there, they’ll say we brought it.”

Snow is in the forecast for New Year’s, from Vegas east to Arizona.

But the colder temperatures haven’t inspired many Calgarians to change their plans for the holiday.

Some, like Global Calgary’s weather person Gemma Lynne Stroobant say they’d actually like to see snow in Vegas. Stroobant and her husband actually booked a last-minute trip to the desert hot spot.

“It looks like the snow is expected there tonight into tomorrow and i’m really really excited to see all the lights in Vegas and the snow falling. cause i’ve only been there when it’s hot,” said Stroobant.

Of course airlines do realize that not everyone is keen on snow when they’re headed south. That’s why WestJet and Air Canada have issued weather advisories.

They warn some flights to and from Vegas may be delayed or cancelled.

Those who are on an affected flight can change their booking without penalty, as long as there are seats available.
