Multi-vehicle crashes on Highway 2, RCMP urge drivers to slow down

CALGARY- Several multi-vehicle crashes shut down the northbound lanes of the QEII for several hours Sunday between Red Deer and Innisfail.

RCMP say around 11:30 a.m. they were called to Highway 2 near Penhold for a crash involving 10 vehicles.

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Shortly after, they were called to Highway 2 near Antler Hill after a semi-truck collided with an RCMP cruiser.

Luckily, the officer was not inside his vehicle at the time and there were no injuries reported.

Mounties are warning Albertans the road conditions in that area remain treacherous.

Rain overnight combined with cold temperatures caused thick ice to form on the road.
