HALIFAX – A 25-year old man will appear in court Friday morning in relation to an assault that resulted in a brief manhunt in Fairview Thursday morning.
He is charged with sexual assault, assault, unlawful confinement and uttering death threats.
Initially, officers descended on the neighbourhood after a report came in to police around 7 a.m. that a woman had been assaulted.
Police initially searched several streets, blocked off Main Avenue and Titus Street and went door-to-door searching for the man, who they believed was carrying a knife.
A K-9 unit was also called to assist with the search.
One person was taken into custody at a Dawn Street apartment building but was later released.
Cst. Pierre Bourdages with Halifax Regional Police said the suspect is well known to police.
There were no details about the extent of the victim’s injuries.
The suspect was described as a black male wearing a grey hoodie and no shoes.
Police say he was arrested around 8:30 p.m. at an address on Central Avenue, the same address from which the initial call came in.
