Global Edmonton weather specialist Kevin O’Connell forecasts a high of -15°C Sunday with sunny skies. The wind will die down a bit, O’Connell said, but it will feel like -25°C to -29°C with the wind chill Sunday.

There is a slight chance of flurries in the forecast Monday, with a high of -10°C.

“It’s still cold right up until mid-week and then we start to warm up a little bit,” said O’Connell.

The Capital Region has been hit hard, weather-wise, over the past week. Upwards of 40 centimetres of snow fell in the area over a two-day period last week. After the snow came the cold, with wind chill values in the -40°C range on Saturday.

Last week’s wild weather led to havoc on the roads in Edmonton and across Alberta. On Saturday, Edmonton police responded to 149 collisions between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Between Thursday and Saturday, RCMP across Alberta were called out to more than 600 collisions.
