Two die-hard BC Lions fans plan to show orange pride at this weekend’s Grey Cup

There will be no home team at Sunday night’s Grey Cup at BC Place, but that’s not stopping two loyal fans from the Sunshine Coast from celebrating their favourite team.

BC Lions were eliminated from the playoffs after a blowout loss to the Montreal Alouettes Nov. 16.

Regardless, Jeannie Juillette and her husband plan to don their orange jerseys come Sunday and support the Leos.

Juillete says she discovered football four years ago and has been a Lions season ticket holder ever since.

“I never paid much attention to football before, went to my first game and just loved it,” she says. “The players are great and the camaraderie between the fans is awesome.”

This is not the first time the couple will be cheering for their home team in absentia.

Juillette and her husband travelled to Toronto to see the Grey Cup in 2012 and went to the game decked out in full Lions swag, even though the team was not in the final.

The two go to almost every game when the Lions play here in B.C., even though they have to take a ferry from Gibsons and arrange for accommodations in Vancouver.

“We are probably the most fanatical supporters on the coast, but there are lot of fans here [in Gibsons] as well.”

Juillette says even though she is bummed about the playoffs, she hopes the Leos will improve next year.

“It is there, they just have to connect and gel again. They’ve lost that somehow,” she adds.

The 102nd Grey Cup final will take place between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Calgary Stampeders at BC Place stadium at 6 p.m. on Nov.30.
